We caught up with Gary Dobyns and got his thoughts on day one of the US Open on Lake Mead. Early reports from Mead had anglers struggling due to the high winds and extreme heat. Most fish were being caught on either topwater and/or reaction baits, most notably spinnerbaits.  The 2009 Open Champion’s early picks were either Justin or John Kerr.  “They are both strong desert fishermen.”  We will be checking in with Gary on Tuesday evening for up-to-date info.

The US Open is likened to as the Bassmaster Classic for western bass fisherman, with more eastern participation in recent years.  Fields typically consisit of the biggest sticks from around the country, including names like Gary Yamamoto and Rick Clunn.  Check out www.wonbass.com for more information on the event and full results, once they are posted.
