North Appalachian Division Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail
On Saturday, June 27th 16 teams traveled to beautiful Western, MD for the third tournament event for the 2009 season of the North Appalachian Division of Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail. God blessed us with a beautiful day. Deep Creek Lake and the surrounding areas have experienced a lot of rain the past couple weeks, but despite that fact the Lake was only slightly higher than normal summer pool. Angler’s described the bite today as “tough”, but all 16 teams managed to catch at least 1 keeper bass.
The tournament conditions at blast-off were gorgeous! The temperatures were 65 degrees outside air temperature and a 75 degree water temperature. The morning quickly warmed up with the bright sunny skies and temperatures reached the mid 80’s by weigh-in. The water was stained on the main lake to clearing in most of the creeks.
Congratulations to the 1st place team of Shawn Skobel and Gary Crayton, who’s bag of Largemouth bass weighed in at 13.96 lbs. Their efforts were worth $914.00 for first place. 2nd place & 1st Big Fish went to the team of DJ Rogers and Jim Holloway. Their bag tipped the scales at 10.28 lbs. Included in their bag was a 4.11 lb. largemouth which was 1st Big Fish. 3rd place went to Keith Heckman and Daniel Fisher .Their 9.36lb. Bag earned them $232.00; 4th place: Brian Cosner/Dave Crawford (9.15 lbs.); 5th place & 2nd Big Fish: John Swesey/Mike Mostoller (9.14lbs. & 3.31lb Largemouth)
I want to thank the Pleasant View Baptist Church for the dinner and the meeting accommodations. Once again Tracy and her staff served us a delicious dinner. Many, many hands helped make this event a success! Thank You Again to All!! 30 fishermen and family members attended the meeting. Matt Ross, North Appalachian Director, shared his testimony and delivered a message on “tournament shirts”. The Lord touched hearts and 3 in attendance indicated they asked Jesus into their hearts making their first dedication to the Lord.
After three events, we have had quite a shake up in the points. We now have a three way tie for first place. Shawn Skobel/Gary Crayton, Brian Cosner/Dave Crawford and Bruce Shives/Kenneth Mills are all currently tied for the Divisional Points Lead all vying for an automatic berth in the National Championship Tournament.
