On Saturday, Sept 19th,Buggs Island/Lake Gaston District of the Virginia Youth Bass Federation held its first qualifing tournament for the 2010 Year. We had a total of 19 youth anglers that arrived at Poplar Creek Landing on Lake Gaston. During the registration and pairings meeting, the boat captains, angler’s and parents enjoyed Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and Orange Juice.
With a cloudy sky and threat of heavy fog setting in, all 10 boats blasted off in search of the monster largemouth. After 7 long hours of fishing, the anglers returned to the launch site to weighin their catch. While all boats were being trailered, the youth and boat captains enjoyed grilled hotdogs and cold soft drinks. When the scales opened, it was obvious that it had been a tough day on the water! Congratulations to Junior Roberts in the 11-14 age group with 3 fish that weighed 3.70 lbs which netted him 1st Place and Adam Hammock in the 15-18 age group with 3 fish that weighed 3.52
